Plimmerton Croquet Club Update February 2023
Hi Everyone
The year has got off to a great start despite some wet and windy weather. Hopefully we have now settled into a period of real summer. I look forward to seeing more of you on the lawns over the following months. If you have anything you would like to know or discuss about the club, please don’t hesitate to speak to me or a committee member.
Plimmerton Croquet Club Cost comparison with other Croquet Clubs
I am occasionally asked by members why our club’s membership is considerably higher than other clubs in the region. This is a fair question, and I have endeavoured to explain it below.
It is important that we compare apples with apples when we look at our membership costs with another club. I have chosen three other clubs in the Wellington region to compare costs against our own. The two biggest costs for our club are the water rates and the maintenance of the lawns.
Our club generally has four ways of covering its costs:
The committee works hard on membership drives, applying for grants where applicable, and this past year in getting sponsors on board.
I truly believe that the club still offers great value for money for members and hope the information below goes some way in explaining why our membership rate is at the current level compared to other clubs.
Club membership cost comparison Jan 2023
The above figures were given to me directly by each club.
*The Kapiti Coast District Council is responsible for the majority of the grounds upkeep at both the Paraparaumu and Waikanae Croquet Clubs, whereas the Plimmerton Croquet Club has full responsibility for its lawn maintenance.
# The Porirua City Council does not subsidise the Plimmerton Croquet Club water costs and we pay commercial rates. The figure given is the average cost over the last seven years paid by the club. In two of the seven years, the cost has been over $4,000.00.
Both Paraparaumu and Waikanae clubs mow the surrounds and carry out the line marking with their own equipment.
Waimarie has no ground equipment to maintain. The Hutt City Council does all maintenance including line marking.
These other clubs do not have to purchase, keep, and maintain the expensive lawn mowing equipment that the Plimmerton Club is responsible for.
The Plimmerton Croquet Club ground expenses include all costs such as fungicides, herbicides, wetting agents, line marking paint etc. Also includes the cost of verti-draining once a year.
Note: Our club is open all year. The Paraparaumu and Waikanae clubs alternate each year on who will close for the Winter season to give their lawns a breather.
The Porirua City Council was approached a few years ago by a small group from our club seeking assistance, especially in the area of water relief. The Council was not prepared to move.
From the Club Captain
February will be a busy month at the club with the Don Reyland Stars (GC) Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 February. And so there is no club play on those days. Please come and watch and encourage friends to do so too.
And the following weekend (18/19 February) the NZ AC Doubles will be held at the club. Games are not timed and so can go for many hours until a pair win the game. The manager is Tom Berryman assisted by Tony le Petit. I will be there for catering and would like some assistance during the days with filling baskets to take to the shelters. There will be a sign-up sheet on the table. Please take this opportunity to see advanced players in action.
Then on Sunday 26 February we hold the Croquet Ole tournament sponsored by Paremata Auto. This is a great fun filled GC day with drawn changing partners and it is suitable for beginners plus more experienced players. Great prizes. You can play morning or afternoon or both sessions. A sign-up sheet is on the noticeboard . Kitchen help will also be required.
It has been brought to my attention of poor etiquette on the lawn: swearing; obstructing a player’s shot, walking onto the next hoop before all four balls have been played, sledging etc. Regardless of whether you are playing a fun game or a competition, this behaviour is against the rules and in fairness to your opponent’s games should be played according to the rules as specified under the rules of croquet. If you are uncertain of the Behaviour required, please refer to the Year book page 257.
Cleaning Duties
When you are near the end of your cleaning period, please remember to ring the next person on the list as a reminder.
Good Gardening from Pip
Hi all
I have been getting great feedback on the state of the Gardens, EVEN from previous non supporters.
Thanks for maintaining your selected areas and also contributing plants from your own resources. Feel free to remove any obviously dead shrubs around your area.
There are two plastic bins for weed collection and two watering cans in Chris’s lock up. Watering cans are more manageable to manoeuvre than a hose in some areas.
Keep up the good work on edges which can extend beyond your own if you so desire. The Southern boundary beds currently have no dedicated carer, Chris is trying but you can lend a hand at any time.
If any Club Members have superfluous plants or cuttings at home, please see me (Pip) and discuss.
Birthday Wishes
Happy birthday to Wendy Betteridge who recently celebrated a significant milestone. Hope you had a great time with family and friends Wendy.
If you know of any member who has a significant date coming up and you would like me to mention it in our newsletter, please just email me.
Special General Meeting
Thank you to all those that were able to attend and support our Special General Meeting on the 4th February. Thanks also to those who sent in their apologies.
The Committee was seeking to amend clause 14 of our constitution and bring forward the date by which our club subs should be paid by, from the 30th September to 30th June each year.
The proposal was supported by 100% of members present and eligible to vote.
We also took the opportunity to hold our 1st BBQ in a long time.
Ricochet Plimmerton Fun Day
Sadly our planned ricochet day on the 29th January was cancelled due to expected bad weather.
Open Day
Our Open Day on the 5th February was reasonably successful considering it was Waitangi weekend. We had eight interested members of the public turning up. Hopefully a good number of these will continue with lessons and then become full members.
Thank you, Carolyn and everyone who assisted in making this a great day for our potential new members.
Your Wellington Florist
“Your Wellington Florist” located at 15B Styne Ave, Plimmerton, is one of our generous sponsors. This business is both run and owned by Sheryl Watkin, a long time Plimmerton resident and a florist for over 50 years. Please support this business. Business cards at the back of the club rooms.
Lawns
On Monday the 5th February, our lawns were converted back to four. As previously explained this is to allow for the CNZ National Open Doubles which commence on Saturday the 18th. It will also allow the much-needed remedial lawn work to commence shortly after.
The lawns will revert back to five around September.

PLIMMERTON CROQUET CLUB INC
NOTICE OF SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING
12.45PM, SATURDAY, 4 FEBRUARY 2023 AT CLUBROOMS
At its meeting on 18 January 2023, the committee agreed under clause 17 of the Club’s constitution that a Special General Meeting (SGM) should be called.
Purpose
The only agenda item for the SGM seeks member approval to amend of clause 14 to bring forward to 30 June the date by which subscriptions fixed at an Annual General Meeting (AGM) are payable.
Explanation and Timing
At present, subscriptions are due immediately after an AGM and payable no later than the following.
30 September. Since AGMs are usually held in May, the grace period for payment is over 4 months.
This is well in excess of customary billing practice. It dates from the time when the Club didn’t operate in winter. With availability of all-year play, that justification isn’t relevant now.
Another consideration is that annual subscriptions cover the Club’s financial year – 1 April to 31 March – and are set at rates budgeted to fund routine operating expenses and depreciation of fixed assets, and to maintain reserves that provide for internal contributions to unexpected or non-routine expenses when needed (such as major lawn maintenance and improvement projects).
Subscriptions are by far the Club’s most important income source. Permitting payment as late as
30 September can leave us exposed in meeting costs incurred in the first half of each financial year. Requiring payment by no later than 30 June – with a grace period usually over 1 month – would reduce this risk and be closer to a normal due date.
This change would come into effect once registered by the Registrar of Incorporated Societies. It is intended that this occurs in time to apply to subscriptions set at the 2023 AGM for the 2023/24 and subsequent financial years.
Motion
The committee proposes that the following amendments to clause 14 be approved:
Clause 14(b) – replace “30th day of September” with 30 June;
Clause 14(c) – replace “October” with “July” and “30 September” with “30 June”; and
Clause 14(d) – replace “30 September” with “30 June”.
For reference, these changes are annotated in the full form of clause 14 on the next page.
Voting
Under clause 27, only Full and Life members are entitled to vote at any meeting of the Club. Associate and Social members have no voting rights. Proxies are not allowed.
14. SUBSCRIPTIONS
(a) The Annual Subscription of Full Members and Green Fees shall be fixed at the Annual General Meeting of the Club by the members present and entitled to vote. Subscriptions payable shall be as follows:
Full Members - The Annual Subscription
Associate Members } Such proportion of the Annual Subscription
Junior Members } of Full Members as may be fixed at the
Social Members } Annual General Meeting
Life Members - Nil
(b) Subscriptions shall be due immediately following the Annual General Meeting and be payable no later than the 30th day of September 30 June.
(c) The Treasurer shall submit to the Committee during the month of October July the names of members whose subscription is unpaid as at 30 September 30 June.
(d) Each member whose subscription remains unpaid as at 30 September 30 June shall be given two weeks’ notice in writing of default unless alternative arrangements approved by the Committee have been made.
(e) No member in respect of whom a subscription or fees remain unpaid after due notice has been given and expired shall be entitled to voting rights or be entitled to play on the Club lawns nor to play in any Club match or competition, nor to play on behalf of the Club in any interclub match or competition, nor to exercise any of the privileges of members unless the Committee in its discretion sees fit to vary these provisions in particular circumstances.

Plimmerton Croquet Club Update January 2023
Hi Everyone
Lawns
We are shortly to have our five lawns reduced to four. This is to accommodate two AC tournaments that will be held at our club during February. Our lawns are currently 95% in size and the requirement for the AC competitions is 100%.
We will also be taking this time to do some renovations to parts of the lawns which are long overdue for remedial work.
The main areas to have major work carried out will be the south side of lawns 4 & 5. Roots from the trees are draining the water away from our lawns in this strip. We will also be looking at the dry grassless northwest corner of Lawn 3 and the south east corner of lawn 1. Other work will also be carried out on all lawns, to try and reduce the thatch (brown areas). The thatch prevents water soaking into the ground and allowing green grass to grow. Once this work is completed, we will have much better playing conditions for all.
Sadly, major work like this has to be carried out every four or five years.
The work will commence on the 6th February. We will revert to five lawns in late September, all going well.
Please bear with us as the work is carried out.
We will do our best to accommodate players on the reduced number of lawns.
Play Times
As the demand for lawn use will be stretched, especially on the GC Saturday afternoon, remember you can also play on a Sunday morning 09:30 am. We have now added Wednesday morning at 09:30 am for GC play. If present, a committee member should carry out the draw. If a committee member is not present, then a senior member of the club.
There is no afternoon play on a Wednesday, so please ensure that you put away all equipment and leave the clubrooms promptly as we have an outside group that uses our rooms on this day, commencing at 1:30pm.
Ricochet
Ricochet Plimmerton Fun Day is being held on Sunday 29th January. If you would like to enter, please put your name on the entry sheet on the board at the rear of the club.
This is a fun day, and you will be paired up with another member who will show you the rules of the game.
Have a Go at Croquet
Have a Go at Croquet is on Sunday 5th February. Please let your friends and family know. This is a great introduction to croquet. We only hold open days twice a year. If you would like to assist, please see Carolyn Rait.
It would be great if you could take a leaflet or two to put up around the Porirua area. Leaflets are on the centre table in the club rooms.
Thanks
Dave Reid
Plimmerton Croquet Club Newsletter December 2022
Hi Everyone
Christmas Greetings
On behalf of the Committee, I would like to wish every member a very merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you all on the greens in 2023.
Thank you
As the year draws to a close, I would like to thank all members for their contribution in making the Plimmerton Croquet club the success that it is.
A club like ours could simply not exist, if it was not for all the voluntary hours put in by many members.
I would in particular like to mention the following: The current committee who have been a pleasure to work with. This is the first year in a long time that we have had a full committee, and they have worked really hard to ensure that our club has run smoothly and efficiently throughout the year. Paul and his grounds team for the long hours and hard work they have put into the lawns. Chris, Pip, and the gardening team for keeping our gardens looking so nice.
The supplies team for ensuring that we always have enough coffee/tea and consumables in the kitchen for our members.
Mahi and Ian for managing our corporate events and Mahi for managing the house. Sue White, our Almoner, for keeping an eye on those members who are unwell.
Christmas Lunch
The club held its annual Christmas lunch on Sunday the 27th November. Despite miserable wet weather, we had a good turnout, and everyone had a great time. Thanks to everyone who provided such a variety of beautiful salads, savouries, and very tempting deserts.
The ham was kindly donated by a member, and beautifully glazed by Mahi, and tasted delicious!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to and purchased a ticket in our Christmas raffle. The prizes were won by John Bolland, Maureen Reed, Wendy Betteridge, and Carolyn Rait
The raffle raised $250.00 for the club.
From the Club Captain
AC has certainly been busy with challenges against other clubs.
Plimmerton is well represented in the WCA challenge against Manawatu (4 December) providing 3 out of the 8 AC players, and 3 out of the 8 GC players.
It is pleasing to see that AC and Ricochet Handicap games are being played. A reminder to all codes that Handicap games must be completed before Christmas.
New Member
Roger Gadd has re-joined our club after a several year absence. Welcome back Roger.
Occasions of note
Please email me with details of significant birthdays or milestones reached by members of our club that you would like included in our newsletter.
Grants
We have been successful in obtaining a second grant that will go towards providing power to our garage. We now have $3,000 towards total costs of just over $4,000.
For those not aware, we currently have no power to our garages that store the ground maintenance equipment. An extension lead is run from the clubrooms when required. This is a long overdue project.
Footwear
Please remember to wear suitable footwear that protects your feet when on the greens. Being hit by a croquet ball at speed is not a pleasant experience.
Corporate events
We have had two Christmas corporate events recently which have helped increase the club funds by over $800.00. We have had great feedback from these groups. It is the fourth time one of these groups has been to our club. We have another event planned prior to Christmas.
Quote of the month
I have been complimented many times, and they always embarrass me; I always feel that they have not said enough. Mark Twain.

Plimmerton Croquet Club Newsletter-November 2022
Hi Everyone
Christmas
Christmas is fast approaching, and we are only two weeks away from our Christmas luncheon which is being held on Sunday the 27th November. Please remember the date. It would be great to have a many members as possible attend. It is always a lot of fun and feel free to dress in the Christmas spirit. Once again, we will be having a really nice ham prepared by Mahi.
Thank you to those that have contributed to the Christmas raffle. If you have an item you would like to donate, please just drop it in the Christmas hamper basket near the entrance to the washrooms. Close off for donations, Saturday the 19th November.
New Members
As most of you will be aware, back in September we had a very successful “Have a Go at Croquet” day. As a result of this we now have 11 new members, which is fantastic. A very warm welcome to each of you. I sincerely hope that you will soon feel part of the club and will make many new friends. I am sure that our club members will make you feel welcome.
Please remember that besides the Golf Croquet which you are currently learning, the club also offers two other forms of croquet, Association and Ricochet croquet. Once you have become confident at Golf, you may wish to consider the other options available. Many of our members play a mixture of the codes. Please just ask.
Welcome to:-
Remember you can find up to date information about the club at plimmertoncroquet.weebly.com
Business Cards
The Club business cards are now available. You will find a supply on the rear wall of the club rooms. Please give them out to people you think may be interested in joining or sponsoring our club. The card directs them to our website which has all the current information of interest.
Dates of Note
Chris Camborne recently celebrated his 80th birthday. Congratulations Chris. Hope you had a great celebration with family and friends.
Club Play
We have been having great numbers turning up for Golf croquet on Saturday afternoons. Please remember that we also play Golf on a Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon.
Association and Ricochet croquet on Tuesday afternoon, Thursday and Saturday mornings.
Please note that a maximum of 40 members can play on the greens at one time. This is assuming we are able to use all five lawns. It is basically first to arrive, first to play.
Although we officially start play at 1pm, please try and be at the club no later than 12.45pm. The Manager (person doing the draws) needs time to set the draw up. Turning up at 1pm not only complicates the draw but means that you may miss out going in the first draw.
Sponsorship
New World, Paremata have agreed to become a sponsor for the next 12 months and have given the club $400.00. You will note a new sign on the fence.
Twilight Golf
Twilight play Friday 25th November from 4pm. Fish ‘n’ Chips at 5.45pm. Orders by 5pm. Please see Mahi if you have any questions in relation to this evening.
Corporate Event
Corporate event on the 23rd November. Lawns and clubrooms unavailable to members from 3.30pm.
Grants
Earlier this year we received a grant from the Pelorus Trust which was used for- tree topping around our grounds. $2000.
Hutt Mana Charitable Trust has recently given us a grant which is going towards providing power to the garage. $2,000.
We are currently awaiting the result of another grant from NZCT, which if successful will also go towards the above job.
From the Club Captain

Plimmerton AC teams have done well in the Club Challenge series. Haven Plate: Sunday 4 December. AC where Plimmerton plays Paraparaumu at Paraparaumu, 1 pm. Two doubles teams and 2 singles required. Please put your name down on the list if you are interested in representing the club.
Christmas is near and it is now time to make sure that all club competitions (AC, Ricochet and GC) are completed before Christmas.
Thank you
Hi Everyone
Welcome to:-
- Warwick and Carolyn Eves
- Margaret Barton
- Francesca Ward
- Anne- Marie Garrett
- Isobel Knapp
- Marie Trethowen
- Kathy Mackenzie
- Chris Brown
- Maureen and Tom Duffy
Congratulations to the three Plimmerton teams, Tony and Lynn, Claire and Wendy, and Paul and Rob for reaching the finals of GC Interclub.
Plimmerton AC teams have done well in the Club Challenge series. Plimmerton having beaten both Paraparaumu and Waimarie HV for the Gold Buttons (4+); won against Kelburn (Association Ferns 10+) and about to challenge Kelburn for the Rudkin Brooches, Petone for the Gold Buttons, and Paraparaumu for the Association Ferns.

Plimmerton Croquet Club Newsletter - October 2022
Hi Everyone
Welcome to our October newsletter. Our Summer season has now started and hopefully we will have a nice long Summer to enjoy the greens.
If there is anything you would like to know about the club and its goings on, please just ask a committee member or myself.
Christmas
This year’s Christmas lunch will be held on Sunday the 27th November. Please note the date and keep it free. It is a great occasion for a mix and mingle and to celebrate the past year. It will be a bring a plate lunch with the club providing the ham. This is a great get together with some really nice food.
Have a Go at Croquet
The first of these events was held on Sunday the 25th September and despite the inclement weather in the morning, it turned out really nice in the afternoon. This was one of the best Have a Go at Croquet days we have had for some time. (even taking Covid into account) Twenty two prospective members turned up for the day.
Although it is always hard to tell how many of these will actually become members, 14 have signed up for the training sessions. This is great news.
If you see any of these people around the club, please make them feel welcome. On the Have a Go at Croquet Day, several visitors said what a friendly club we were. Let’s keep it that way.
A big thankyou to Carolyn and the other helpers who assisted in making the day such a success.
Rules session
Wayne recently ran an updated GC rules session at our club for interested persons from the Wellington region. 42 members attended including 18 from our club. Thanks Wayne.
Parking
Parking is once again permitted on the grass berm area along the North side of our club grounds. (Plimmerton Drive) Parking is permitted from the 1st October until 30th April.
Please note we are still not permitted to park in this area during wet periods, even during Summer.
We are also requested not to drive along the grassed area near the fence. This is to prevent damage to the underground sewer line.
Setting up of the lawns
It would be appreciated if all members could assist with the setting up of the lawns when you arrive at the club. It is often noted that it is the same group of members who appear to set up the greens, while others either just hang around the club room area, or worse, start practising while others are still setting up the greens.
Taking down the lawns
As above, please assist. Members that are leaving after the first two games, please check with the duty manager for the day (member allocating the draws) to see if a lawn needs to be taken down. Please don’t just walk off and expect others to do this work. It is important everyone contributes to the day’s success.
Cell phones
If you must have your mobile phone with you on the greens, please have it on silent. It is not acceptable to have it ringing during a game and then proceeding to answer in a loud voice. Please think of others.
Patio
The new patio has now been completed. Please note that the digging out, boxing, and concreting of this area has been carried out by a small group of members under Rob’s leadership. Thanks Rob. The only cost to the club will be the actual concrete, a little over $600. 00. Thanks to Wayne for supplying the reinforcing. I believe that members will notice the benefits of the extended patio during the summer months.
Business cards
We now have a Plimmerton Croquet Club generic business card. The idea is that this can easily be given to people that make enquiries about the club. The card does not have members names or phone numbers. These can change often. The card has the club web address. This is where prospective members should be directed.
All relevant information including information about joining the club, contact names, ph numbers can be found here plimmertoncroquet.weebly.com
House Manager
We have recently had a professional in to place ant bait around the kitchen area. You will note several small clear containers with liquid around the bench area and one on the floor by the tea and coffee cupboard. He has also sprayed around the exterior of the club house. Hopefully this will keep the ants at bay during the summer period.
Recycling: Please do not leave empty plastic bottles/containers around the kitchen area. Either put them in the rubbish bin or take them home, if you wish to recycle them.
Thank you

Plimmerton Croquet Club Newsletter - September 2022
Hi Everyone
Welcome to our September newsletter. As always please contact me or another committee member if you would like more information or clarification on a particular matter. Occasionally I hear totally false information going around the club, which could very easily be cleared up if members just asked.
Covid
The previous mandates for members and people entering our club ended on the 31st August. Members and guests are still expected to take appropriate measures where necessary such as distancing, wearing of masks and not coming to the club when feeling unwell.
Quiz Night
Quiz night fundraiser was held on Saturday the 27th August and was attended by 62 members, friends and sponsors. It was a great evening of fun, food and laughter. We made a profit of $1300.00 after expenses were deducted.
Thank you to all those members who supported the evening by coming along, buying raffle tickets, buying an answer, and just enjoying yourselves
A special thank you to the following who contributed to the night being such a success.
Mahi & Ian Tony & Pip Gabrielle & Wendy
Open Day
Our next Open Day is on Sunday the 25th September at 1pm. Please help promote this day by bringing your friends along and uplifting a handout leaflet or two from the centre table in the club rooms to distribute or put up in your local community.
The club currently needs new members, and this is our best opportunity of the year to promote our club.
GoGo Festival
This was a Porirua City Council co-ordinated festival where the public could sign up online to various sports/hobbies and interests around the Porirua region. Twelve people signed up to try croquet, of which eight turned up for a recent weekend training session. Hopefully several of these will come back for further training.
Gala Day-Opening of Summer Season
Sadly, our Gala Day on Saturday the 3rd September had to be cancelled due the poor weather conditions and concerns around Covid. However, on Sunday morning we had a mini opening for those that were present for play. Kelvin ran the first hoop to start the season.
Greens
You will have noticed that all of the greens have been moved slightly to the North. This is to allow the South side of lawns 4 & 5 to be fixed and levelled over the next few months.
A big thanks to Kelvin and Ivan who spent many hours re marking the line and hoop positions. If you have not seen how this is done, it is a very time-consuming task.
Website
Please continue to check out our website. This is where you will find up to date information about what is happening at your club. If there is anything you would like to see added to the website, please see our webmaster, Robyn Reid.

Plimmerton Croquet Club Newsletter - July 2022
Hi everyone
Welcome to our second newsletter. As always, please contact any of the committee members or myself should you have any issues that you think we should know about.
Covid
The decision to continue with the current policy was not taken lightly. The decision was based on the recent dramatic rise in the Omicron infection rates and the increasing death rate amongst the older generation.
The Committee also agreed to discuss and update the policy at each committee meeting.
Vaccinated refers to those who have been vaccinated in the past regardless of their current vaccination status.
The club will continue with its current policy where we rely on the honesty and integrity of our attending members and visitors.
I believe that the committee has made the right decision for now.
Kelvin Watson/Tom Berryman
A luncheon to celebrate Kelvin and Tom’s life membership achievement was held on Saturday the 9th July. The celebration was attended by around 40 members including members from around the Wellington region and from the WCA. A presentation of certificates was made by the PCC and the WCA, together with a bouquet of flowers to Barbara and Beverley.
Sponsorship
Paremata Auto Services has once again agreed to pay for the printing of our club programme. This year they have also agreed to sponsor our Ole competition to the tune of $350.00. Thank you to Carolyn.
Black Rose florists, 15b Steyne Ave Plimmerton have just signed a one-year sponsorship deal with our club. This was for a total of $400.00. A Black Rose sign will appear shortly on our fence. Thank you to Claire.
Groundup Café, Pauatahanui has once again very generously donated towards Quiz night prizes and our upcoming Christmas raffle. They have continued to support us over the last few years.
A lot of effort goes into obtaining sponsorship for our club in a very tight market. Please support our sponsors by using them wherever possible. We would like our sponsorship relationships to be long term. The only way to ensure this, is by supporting them.
Parking
Please do not park on the grass area along the North side of our club during the Winter season. This also means no wheels on any of the grassed area. For those that do not know, it is normally illegal to park on the grassed berm by our club. The Porirua City Council has given us dispensation to park there during our summer play. We are not permitted to park there between the 1st May and the 30th September. Any damage caused by our members is the full responsibility of our club to repair.
Quiz Night
Quiz night will be held on Saturday the 27th August starting at 5pm this year. This is our one big fundraising event of the year. It is always a lot of fun and includes some very nice food.
Even if Quiz nights are not really your thing, please show your support by attending. If you are unable to attend, but would still like to support us, you can still buy a place. Just let Mahi know that you will not be attending.
Cost per person attending $20.00. Please see Mahi if you have any questions in relation to the night.
Croquet Club Website www.plimmertoncroquet.weebly.com
Please check the club website. It is full of up-to-date information about our club.
Porirua City Love Local Expo
The Plimmerton Croquet Club has a stand here, and we are still looking for a couple of members to assist, for one hour. Please see the sheet on the main table in the Club rooms. It is not an arduious task. The stand will be set up with club posters and leaflets. Your job is to help promote the club to possible new members, answer questions and hand out a flyer or two. Please consider assisting.
Players Meeting
This year’s Players meeting will be held on Sunday 7th August 1.30pm at our club rooms. This is an important meeting to both hear from the Club Captain/s and to have your say. Please be there.
GoGo Festival
This festival is run and coordinated by the Porirua City Council to encourage locals to get involved in events around the Porirua area. It includes everything from sports to Arts & Crafts. Check out their website.
People who are interested, sign in on the website and register their attendance. It is free.
It will be run on Sunday the 14th and 28th August 1-3pm.
Our Club has 12 positions available on each day for interested persons to register. We currently have 7 people registered for the 14th.
This is a great way to get people interested in croquet.
Please be prepared to assist on the day with coaching if requested.
Please see Carolyn if you have any questions in relation to these events.

Plimmerton Croquet Club Newsletter - June 2022
Hi everyone and welcome to our June newsletter. These are occasional, not monthly newsletters to try and keep members abreast of what is currently happening at your club.
The new committee has now had its first meeting and things are proceeding well. Please note the list of members and their roles within the committee below. Feel free to contact any of the members or myself should have any issues that you think we should know about.
Suggestion box
A small wooden suggestion box has been placed on the center table. If you have an idea or suggestion and would prefer to let us know anonymously, please drop a note into the box. I plan on trialing this for approximately six months.
New Member Mentor (not coach)
Wendy Neilson has kindly agreed to take on this role. The idea is that Wendy will keep an eye on new members for around six months, ensuring that they are made to feel welcome (which we should all be doing) and a point of contact if needed.
Kelvin Watson
Kelvin Watson was elected a life member of the Wellington Croquet Association at their recent AGM. Kelvin is now a life member of both the Plimmerton Croquet Club and the Wellington Croquet Association. Positions he most readily deserves after many years of loyal service to croquet.
Croquet Club Website www.plimmertoncroquet.weebly.com
Please check out our club website. The site is full of up-to-date information about our club, including upcoming events, competitions, contact details, history, days of play for each code and much more.
If you would like anything added or have a suggestion for the website, please contact Robyn Reid, our Webmaster.
Greens
Lawns 4 and 5 are progressing well and the planned opening date for these is still on target for the end of June.
Sponsorship
Harcourts Paremata, Anne Marie (AM) recently signed a two-year sponsorship deal with our club. This was for a total of $800.00, which she has paid in full. A Harcourts sign will shortly appear on our fence. If you are thinking of selling or buying, please consider Anne Marie. If you should list and sell through her, the club will gain another $500.00.
Quiz Night
It’s back. Please make a note to reserve Saturday night the 27th August.

Hello Everyone,
Looks like the weather will be fine for Saturday so the club Christmas function is happening and is a picnic. It is going to be a very informal affair, you can start arriving around 12 noon and we will probably eat between 12.30 and 1pm. Feel free to bring your own libation. We are having club members only on this occasion so no partners. This is short notice because this function is only possible in dry weather. You may want to bring a sun umbrella if it turns out to be sunnier than the forecast predicts.
See you there
